Apple and News Corp to launch The Daily for iPads on Feb. 2nd

Apple and News Corp. have jointly issued invitations to select media members on Thursday, to the court for a special event next Wednesday to celebrate the launch of the newspaper designed specifically for digital iPad.

News Corporation Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch has called on the Start: The Journal,  reads the invitation, of which around Jim Dalrymple loop has been sent. Murdoch will be joined on stage by Eddy Cue, Apple’s CEO, vice president of Internet services, that all things iTunes umbrella.

The event will begin at 11.00 clock EST, WEDNESDAY, 2 February at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum 1071 Fifth Avenue on the am.

The newspaper, which News Corp. will further strengthen experimental digital media alone was originally for 19 to appear in January, but was postponed at the last minute. Reports have shown that delays due to new subscriptions to Apple’s iTunes, the feature was working.

For his part, Murdoch has publicly confirmed that the daily cost of $ 0.99 per week when it launches next month. The latest addition to the library Publications News Corp. paid content, which last year saw the London Times and News of the fall in the world behind paywall.

At the same time, much of the hype around the paper on rumors that seek the release of the beginning of a new salary structure App Store to traditional print publications to take their digital content subscriptions are linked. The new format is also a technology that will offer the new magazine and newspaper editions iPads subscribers are inserted automatically.

To date, publications, the experimentation with digital printing for iPad forced to Apple payments to be overcome existing problems, that their efforts have thwarted for optimal use of the booming market for tablets that use some industry observers to 50 million units expected this year.

Consumers have a reluctance to raise premiums at the kiosk to pay for digital copies of magazines in the App Store, which showed $ 4.99 per item of the weekly New Yorker. This translates into over $ 250 per year to read the magazine in the iPad well above the annual subscription for the printing of a digital product with only a fraction of the indirect costs of production.

Moreover, in case of most magazines now on the App Store, consumers need to manually search for and buy each new issue separately rather than have it delivered to your iPads automatically. That does not bode well for the editors of the magazine, which generate the bulk of their revenue from annual fees instead of impulse buying.

After starting the newspaper next month, we believe that Apple will extend the subscription format said that other interested publishers. However, it is assumed that iPad manufacturers include more of such agreements with other publishers of News Corp.
